Billed as the most affordable Cyber-shot phone to date, the Sony Ericsson C510 comes with a seemingly modest 3.2 megapixel camera - but there's more to good photographs than just the pixel count.

What makes the C510 a true "Cyber-shot" device is a combination of features such as autofocus, a camera light, face and smile detection, photo blogging capabilities and picture editing tools. One thing that Sony Ericsson are proud of is their "Smile Shutter" function that detects when the subject is smiling and then takes the photograph automatically.. this will also be added to the existing C905 through a software update.

There are a couple of other neat features too. The display auto-rotates between wide and tall orientations when the handset is turned, the C510 also has a feature called Snapfish allows pictures to be uploaded and printed professionally, and usefully the lens on the C510 also has a sliding cover to protect it.

The C510 is a quad-band GSM phone with support for UMTS / HSDPA 2100. There's also a US version, the C510a which has tri-band UMTS support too, and a C510c version for China that lacks 3G. Sony Ericsson actually say that the C510 has "HSPA" which might imply that it is capable of high-speed uploads as well as downloads.

Besides all of this, the C510 is a pretty normal 3.5G

The C510 is pretty close in specification to the existing Sony Ericsson C702, except that the C510 lacks GPS. Perhaps this phone can best be considered as the replacement for the K660i or K770i.
